This panel of doctoral students explores their learning experiences in a predominantly white academic institution while studying social work history. The discussion highlights the impact of diverse narratives on learning, professional identity, and understanding one’s place in social work’s historical landscape.

At the end of this session, attendees should be able to:

1. Examine the unique experiences of students of color navigating historical narratives in a predominately white academic setting.
Understand the importance of using a historical social work approach to better understand minoritized perspectives, including but not limited to disability justice.
MSW and BSW level educators will emerge with tools they can use to teach social work history in their classrooms.
