As a Program Coordinator at Tulane University, Miya manages several NIH-funded projects that investigate HIV care access and treatment outcomes in the Deep South. Their research has been published in prominent journals, including JAMA Internal Medicine and Social Work in Public Health. Miya's analysis of Black LGBTQ+ health and community belonging has been presented at various national conferences, such as the American Public Health Association Annual Conference and the Society for Social Work and Research Conference. They have been the recipient of multiple awards, including the APHA Student Research Paper Award, Fannie Lou Hamer, and Sojourner Truth Award. Miya is cognizant of tackling health inequities through research, policy, and community engagement.
