Haein Son, LCSW-R, is a doctoral candidate in Social Welfare at the Graduate Center, City University of New York, and a 2024-2025 fellow of the Council on Social Work Education Minority Fellowship Program. For over two decades, Haein has been a committed advocate for mental health awareness in the Asian American community. He co-founded and served as president of the Korean American Behavioral Health Association, Inc., and in 2021, co-edited and published Understanding Korean Americans’ Mental Health: A Guide to Culturally Competent Practices, Program Developments, and Policies.
Haein’s research interests include addressing disparities in mental health care access for marginalized populations and youth suicide prevention. His work particularly emphasizes the barriers Asian Americans face in accessing mental health services. He aims to expand his research to develop culturally responsive crisis care systems, including the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
