Columbia University, Action Lab for Social Justice
Tara Abbawi (she/her) is a Registered Social Worker in Toronto, Canada. She works at the intersection of disability justice, workforce development, and program design, exploring creative ways to improve systems and accessibility. She holds a Master of Science in Social Work from Columbia University, specializing in leadership, management, and entrepreneurship, with a focus on the world of work.
Her experience spans program development, training design, and strategic partnerships in workforce and education settings. She has developed career-readiness programs, organizational training initiatives, and disability inclusion efforts, integrating universal design and accessibility frameworks. As a co-leader of the CSSW Action Lab's Disability Justice Initiative, she co-developed disability justice curriculum and advocated for its inclusion in CSSW's core curriculum, as well as co-produced a narrative medicine short documentary on systemic barriers for disabled students, intended to foster discourse on necessary reforms for inclusion and equity in the university environment. She also served as a teaching associate at Columbia University for Program Planning and Design for Social Innovation, guiding students in creating systemic interventions for social impact.
