Dr. Kenan Sualp is an Assistant Professor at the University of Central Florida’s School of Social Work. He specializes in environmental risk factors for mental health, access to care, and the application of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in social work research. His work integrates Community-Based Participatory Research, Mixed-Methods Research, and Program Evaluation to address disparities in health, social services, and community resilience.
Dr. Sualp has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, focusing on immigration, environmental justice, neighborhood-level influences on health, and food insecurity. His research explores the impact of smart cities, environmental determinants of health, and critical spatial thinking on mental health outcomes.
In addition to his research, Dr. Sualp has played a key role in academic assessment and curriculum development, serving as an Associate Editor for top Journals in the Field. He has received multiple grants and awards, including funding for his work on robotic pet therapy for older adults and mental health services for refugees.
Dr. Sualp actively collaborates on GIS-based policy integration, disaster management, and resilience research. His work contributes to advancing social work’s role in spatial data analysis and technology-driven interventions to enhance service accessibility and equity.
