While neglect accounts for over 70% of substantiated cases nationwide substantial state-level variations exist in definitions and racial disparities (RD) in child neglect reports. This study employs descriptive and bivariate analyses, as well as geo-mapping to visualize state-level differences in RD in neglect reports within the context of race/ethnicity-specific poverty.

Attendees will recognize the relationship between poverty and racial disparity in neglect reports among minoritized families.
Attendees will be able to apply research findings to child welfare policy and practice development by: 1) recognizing the importance of using diverse, disaggregated data, and 2) understanding the role of socioeconomic factors in child welfare policies and services to reduce the overrepresentation of minoritized families.
