At the time of this presentation, Joana is a doctoral candidate at the School of Social Work with a background in child protection and integrated healthcare models. She earned her BSW and MSW from Wichita State University. Her research is informed by her practice experiences and focuses mainly on parental healthcare access as child maltreatment prevention (specifically neglect), as well as racial disparities in the child welfare system. A secondary research interest concerns how anti-racist, diversity, equity and inclusion content is embedded in social work education.
