Session: Disability Justice & Reproductive Rights: Empowering Sexual Education

Sexual Pleasure Is a Right: Centering Disability Justice and Reproductive Justice in Social Work

The session explores systemic barriers to sexual autonomy for people with disabilities and proposes solutions to improve sexual well-being. We discuss how Disability Justice and Reproductive Justice frameworks are applied to social work education by centering disabled voices and supporting emerging social workers to provide inclusive care that embraces pleasure.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this session, attendees should be able to:
  1. Apply two justice-based frameworks, Disability Justice and Reproductive Justice to clinical social work practice that supports sexual autonomy and pleasure for people with disabilities.
  2. Summarize the benefits of applying Black Feminist Pedagogy to social work education to challenge dominant power structures and promote reflective, inclusive learning.
  3. Explain three potential outcomes of social work practice and education that center people with disabilities and promote their sexual autonomy and pleasure.
