It is essential for social work educators to understand the capabilities and the limitations of AI when assessing student assignments. Using a sample of student assignments created by ChatGPT (N=15), a content analysis was conducted to observe themes across AI generated research papers in undergraduate social work courses.
Learning Objectives:
At the end of this session, attendees should be able to:
Identify common limitations of AI when it is misused to write academic papers and understand how it impacts student learning.
Understand how AI software is commonly being used among social work students and connect it to our ethical standards as a profession. Participants will be able to observe examples of ethical and unethical use of AI in higher education settings.
Develop new ways of addressing AI use among students in classroom settings. Participants will be provided with ideas on how to teach AI literacy to students, prevent AI misuse among students, and develop consistent and equitable policies regarding the ethical use of AI on assignments.
