The results of recent research on Appalachian respondents’ reasons for contraceptive use and nonuse will be presented in the context of providing participants with strategies for infusing content about reproductive health topics into social work practice coursework, so students will be prepared to engage with clients around these topics.

Participants will be presented with the results of a study examining reasons for contraceptive use and nonuse in a sample of people living in Appalachia, which will be contextualized into recommendations for including reproductive health content in social work practice courses.
Participants will be presented with recommendations for reproductive health topics aligned with the grand challenge to close the health gap that can be infused into practice classes.
Participants will be provided with recommendations for course material and assignments for practice classes aimed at increasing student awareness of clients’ contraceptive and other reproductive health needs to prepare them to engage around this topic in practice settings.
