This presentation will provide participants the opportunity to the learn about qualitative study results focused on Black women graduate students’ perceptions of whether joy can contribute to healing from race-based trauma. During this presentation, attendees will consider ways to expand research and apply findings to support students with minoritized identities.

Articulate general understanding of background literature, research purpose, design, method and findings.
Develop knowledge on race-based trauma and perceptions of whether joy can contribute to healing from race-based trauma and consider future directions for research on identity based trauma.
Propose practical recommendations for social work practice focused on supporting students impacted by race-based trauma.
