Disability justice and accessibility are underfunded, understudied fields in the Social Work community. Three MSW students formed the group “DREAM: Disability Justice" to advocate for accessibility challenges on campus, promote equity practices for individuals with disabilities, and propose improvements in the MSW curriculum to include disability justice and current practices
Learning Objectives:
At the end of this session, attendees should be able to:
Attendees will engage individuals with disabilities in respectful and compassionate discourse to ensure they feel supported and gain resources to remove accessibility barriers in coursework and field education
Attendees will hear directly from three practitioners currently working in disability justice fields what clinical skills, training, and resources are needed to share with MSW and Ph.D students
Attendees will learn strategies to listen to student feedback in higher educational settings and motivate students to advocate for their own needs
