Assistant Teaching Professor University of Washington School of Social Work
Enhancing macro social work education through community organizing, policy, and administration is essential for effective systemic change. Students interested in large-scale impact seek improvements in macro specializations, including stronger field instructor supervision. Without effective models or improved training, the integration of classroom learning into practice remains a missed opportunity.
Learning Objectives:
At the end of this session, attendees should be able to:
Identify Challenges in Macro Field Education – Understand the gaps in macro-level field instruction and supervision, including the lack of structured learning opportunities and appropriate supervision models for macro social work students
Examine Promising Practices for Macro Supervision – Explore evidence-based strategies and insights from research, alumni surveys, and focus groups to improve macro-level practicum supervision.
Apply a Structured Model for Macro Supervision – Learn about a proposed model designed to enhance macro practice field instruction, ensuring better integration of classroom learning into practicum experiences and increased student competency in macro social work.
