The panel will explore the cross-cultural challenges and successes of Muslim American families with disabilities. It will highlight the importance of understanding the intersectionality of race, religion, and disability, addressing the gap in existing literature, and informing mental health professionals and social work practitioners about emerging research.

At the end of this session, attendees should be able to:

The panel will highlight the need for culturally appropriate interventions to address the stigma surrounding disability and mental illness, particularly in Muslim communities.
The panel will also advocate for the inclusion of underrepresented groups in disability research, encouraging more data collection on individuals with minoritized racial, ethnic, and language backgrounds.
The panel will integrate culturally responsive strategies into social work practice, in alignment with CSWE's EPAS 2022 standards, specifically competencies 2 and 3.
