This session presents a conceptual paper focusing on extending the conceptualization of self-care in social work literature using a Black feminist framework. Utilizing theoretical concepts of intersectionality, lived experience, and self-definition, participants will be encouraged to consider the nuanced and underexplored ways Black women social workers may carry out self-care.

Upon completion, the participants will be able to describe some examples of how self-care is discussed in the research literature.
Upon completion, the participants will be able to distinguish key themes of Black feminist thought.
Upon completion, the participants will be able to report three examples of self-care that incorporate a Black feminist thought framework.
