This paper investigates reasons why individuals did not access formal victim-centered services following violent crime victimization. It covers the barriers to accessing services as well as how these differ by geographic contexts (i.e., urban, rural, and suburban). These findings highlight the need for future outreach strategies to overcome these barriers.
Learning Objectives:
At the end of this session, attendees should be able to:
Understand the major barriers to formal help-seeking following violent crime victimization, including why people do not attempt to access victim-centered services and the barriers they face when they do attempt to access such services.
Examine how the urban, rural, and suburban context impacts formal help-seeking behaviors following crime victimization.
Evaluate the critical need for developing targeted outreach strategies and addressing unique barriers to seeking victim-centered services in different geographic settings, particularly among diverse and immigrant populations.
