Chronic pain is a hidden, unaddressed disability that increases the risk of addiction. Combining the 12-Step model with Logotherapy to address symptom management for chronic pain in an integrated treatment model could improve coping mechanisms, mitigate addiction, and enhance quality of life.

Upon completion, the participant will understand what chronic pain is, what the correlation between chronic pain and addiction is, and how this has been treated in the past.
Upon completion, the participant will understand how the integration of a biopsychosocial approach to pain by combining behavioral health and primary medical care could reduce barriers and promote improved health outcomes, to include a reduction of addiction.
Upon completion, the participant will be familiar with the tenets of Logotherapy and the traditions of a 12-Step model, will critically discuss the proposal for this novel intervention combination that seeks to reduce addiction for chronic pain patients in the setting of integrated primary care.
