PhD Student
Simmons University
Alyssa Adwell is a second year PhD student at Simmons University, an experienced practitioner and interventionist, and a long time champion of underserved and marginalized populations.
Serving the community as a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker and Substance Use Disorder Professional in Washington State, Alyssa has historically worked in community mental health, for hospitals as a medical social worker, as a crisis responder, within systems as a health and social services coordinator, as a governor appointed council chair for independent living, and in leading acute care programs for behavioral health.
Currently, Alyssa balances her social work passions as a leader in a local hospital system for their emergency and acute care, as a counselor for court ordered anger management programming with a local small business, as an adjunct faculty for Simmons University's MSW program, and with a private practice serving a co-occurring population of addiction, chronic pain, chronic illness, and trauma. Her research interests include the disintegration of behavioral health and primary medical care, social work intervention for chronic pain, addiction treatments and correlations, and disability advocacy and access.
Alyssa is passionate about social work and is looking forward to the multitude of opportunities afforded to her in the work of caring for people.
