Interdisciplinary Approaches to Disability, Ableism, and Social Justice in Macro Social Work

This Special Commission partnership session will explore the intersection of disability/ableism with other forms of systemic oppression, such as racism, sexism, and classism. Emphasizing an interdisciplinary, macro-level perspective, participants will engage in a dialogue on how social work educators can integrate these insights into inclusive, socially just policies and interventions.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this session, attendees should be able to:
  1. identify strategies for integrating disability and ableism into interdisciplinary social work education, fostering inclusive and socially just practices in future practitioners.
  2. analyze the impact of ableism and intersecting oppressions on policies, practices, and social structures, with a focus on social work advocacy at the community, organizational, and policy levels.
  3. examine the intersections of disability, ableism, and other forms of oppression (e.g., racism, sexism, classism) within macro-level social work practice, using interdisciplinary frameworks.
