Special Commission to Advance Macro Social Work
Darlyne Bailey is Professor and Dean Emeritus at the Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research at Bryn Mawr College where she also serves as the Director of the Social Justice Initiative and Special Assistant to the President for Community Partnerships. She is co-chair (with Terry Mizrahi) of the newly retitled Special Commission to Advance Macro Social Work. A licensed clinical Social Worker, her body of work is in the macro social work fields of organizational transformation, generation of system- wide equity and inclusion, and women’s leadership in higher education while contributing to the theory and practice of participatory action research in establishing multi-organizational alliances and interprofessional partnerships. Her recent articles and books collectively represent her commitment to “co- laboring” with others to amplify voices across and between social identities and locations. For close to 30 years, Darlyne has held leadership positions as Dean, Vice President, and Acting President of several prestigious colleges and universities. She has been on the boards of the National Association of Deans and Directors (NADD) and CSWE and continues to partner with colleagues on CSWE task forces and work groups. As a proud 2017 NASW Social Work Pioneer, Group XIII WK Kellogg Foundation Leadership Fellow, the 2021 NASW- PA recipient of the Phyllis Black Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Carl A. Scott Memorial Lecturer, Darlyne remains deeply engaged as often the only Social Worker on community-based and national boards and Editor-in-Chief of the 28-year-old multidisciplinary journal Reflections: Narratives of Professional Helping.
