This qualitative study explored thoughts on mental health (MH) therapy among clients (n=21) with histories of intimate partner violence and housing instability. Findings coalesced into advice for survivors (example theme: “give it a try”) and therapists (example theme: “follow the survivor”). Findings can inform advocacy, social marketing campaigns, and trainings.
Learning Objectives:
At the end of this session, attendees should be able to:
Discuss how the combination of IPV and housing instability can affect people’s ability and willingness to engage in mental health therapy.
Describe tailored strategies for effectively serving the mental health needs of IPV
survivors with a history of housing instability.
Identify the ways in which study findings can be applied to their own practice setting.
