Beyond Compliance: Conducting Meaningful Evaluations for Disability Justice in Social Work Education

Accessibility in higher education must go beyond compliance to foster true inclusion and belonging. Our workshop shares how we developed a Universal Design framework to evaluate and transform accessibility at our School of Social Work. Learn actionable strategies for institutional change, stakeholder engagement, and implementing universal design for lasting impact.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this session, attendees should be able to:
  1. Participants will be able to articulate the principles of disability justice-oriented approach to culture and climate and explain how this framework differs from a compliance-based approach to accessibility in social work higher education.
  2. articipants will learn strategies to support multi-stage processes for evaluating and improving accessibility within social work education, including strategies for data collection, stakeholder engagement, and collaborative implementation of recommendations.
  3. Participants will identify ways in which the Universal Design Framework for Social Work Education and Practice that resulted from our evaluation and implementation process can apply in their own educational settings.
