This pilot study identifies significant gaps in MSW programs' preparation for developmental disabilities (DD). Survey findings highlight the urgent need to integrate DD-focused coursework and training into curricula. Comprehensive education emphasizing hands-on experience and cultural responsiveness is essential for equipping social workers to address systemic inequities and foster inclusive environments.
Learning Objectives:
At the end of this session, attendees should be able to:
Participants will understand the deficiencies in developmental disability (DD)-related content within MSW programs and their impact on graduates' preparedness to serve individuals with DD.
Participants will learn how transcultural perspectives and critical disability theory principles can inform effective advocacy and address systemic disparities in DD care.
Participants will recognize the importance of integrating hands-on experience, culturally responsive mentorship, and DD-focused education into MSW curricula to improve social work practice.
