Assistant Professor Sara Terrana specializes in nonprofit human-service organizations (NPOs) and social work pedagogy. Her research focuses on two key areas: (1) the role of NPOs in neighborhoods of concentrated disadvantage, particularly in communities of color impacted by privatization and macro-level social policy shifts, and (2) innovative approaches to teaching and assessing social work students’ engagement with social action and social justice. Dr. Terrana is an expert in qualitative research methodologies and is trained in advanced computer-assisted qualitative data analysis software (CAQDAS). She currently serves as the principal investigator for a university-funded, mixed-methods study evaluating the impacts of Social Action Initiatives (2021--2025). Her scholarship has been published in several peer-reviewed journals and she has presented her research at national and international conferences across disciplines.
