Tawana Smith is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and a Board-Approved Clinical Supervisor (BACS) in the state of Louisiana. With over twenty years of experience in the social services field, Tawana has developed deep expertise in direct practice and program development across nonprofit and for-profit sectors.
Tawana earned her undergraduate degree in Psychology from McNeese State University and her Master’s in Social Work (MSW) from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. She is pursuing a Ph.D. in Social Work at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas.
Throughout her career, Tawana has had the privilege of working with a diverse range of populations, including individuals from low socioeconomic backgrounds, people experiencing homelessness, and individuals with substance abuse and mental health challenges. Her work spans various settings and roles, including administration, program development, and direct clinical practice. Among her areas of specialization, Tawana has a particular passion for end-of-life care and working with children and families.
Currently, Tawana serves as a Senior Social Worker with the Veterans Healthcare Administration, where she provides specialized counseling services to veterans diagnosed with severe mental health conditions such as schizophrenia, PTSD, and bipolar disorder. Her extensive clinical practice and program oversight background allow her to provide a comprehensive, compassionate approach to mental health care.
Tawana is deeply committed to supporting individuals and families through life's most challenging times, and she continues to expand her knowledge and impact through her ongoing education and professional endeavors.
