Ruth Cislowski is an Associate Professor and Assistant Director of Practicum Education at the USC Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work. Ruth Cislowski assists in the administration of the practicum education and placement process for MSW students to ensure the students receive the practicum experience necessary to matriculate through the program and meet the competencies from the national Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). This has included placing students with internships in schools, hospitals, community clinics, workforce development centers, government agencies, law enforcement, mental health, substance abuse, counseling centers, etc. Ruth Cislowski currently serves as the Co-Prinicipal Investigator for the HRSA Funded Primary Care Project Stipend which provides scholarships to disadvantaged MSW students who are committed to interning and working in behavioral health settings in medically underserved communities.
Ruth Cislowski has won numerous awards for her efforts to bring mental and behavioral health services to her community. Prior to joining USC, Ruth Cislowski was the founding program director for the West LA FamilySource Center. This one-stop community service center was funded by the City of Los Angeles using Community Development Block Grant funding provided through the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The goal of the program was to provide services to low income residents of Los Angeles that would assist them toward self-sufficiency. This goal was achieved through a collaboration among 7 unique organizations providing integrated mental health and behavioral health services to over 3000 clients annually.
