Dr. April Steen is a full-time faculty member and a licensed clinical social worker with a professional focus in law enforcement and military families, work life balance, sport social work, and trauma/compassion fatigue. She teaches courses on social work practice, field education, social welfare policy, research, restorative justice, disabilities, death and dying and education courses including teaching diverse learners in inclusive settings.
Dr. Steen has more than 15 years of practice experience in social work. Most of her career has been as a systems navigator/school social worker for a large school district, clinical practice, employee assistance counselor, political advocacy, research, child welfare and domestic violence arenas.
Research Interests: Compassion fatigue/trauma informed care, social work practice with individuals with disabilities and their support systems, integrating disability content into social work education, field education, port social work, macro social work practice and social work education.
