Erika Peter-Harp has returned to Simmons after graduating from the MSW Advanced Standing program in 2013. She received her BSW degree from Wheelock College. She spent many years working with young people and families in Cambridge, through the out-of-school time, youth employment, and parenting programs. Erika managed an afterschool program focused on the social/emotional learning and development of elementary-aged students through a trauma-focused lens. Her work in the school system has enforced the importance of partnering with families in their children’s success in school and beyond.
Erika Peter-Harp has also worked as a therapist for adults with substance use disorders and also as a residential counselor on a children’s psychiatric inpatient unit. Some areas of focus for practice include: trauma, mental illness, and racial and social justice. She loves her work engaging with students on their journeys into the world of social work.
