Graduate Student
Grand Valley State University
My name is Laura Andres. I am a student working toward a Master's degree in Social Work at Grand Valley State University. My current professional role other than a student is a Research Assistant. My experience in research has focused on infectious disease prevention, COVID-19, and the intersection of trauma exposure and professional outcomes in social work education. My areas of research interest include Professional Quality of Life (ProQOL), Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), trauma, and law enforcement. This position instills supplemental skills that further support my research ability, with an end goal to pursue a publication of my own. I am proficient in SPSS software and am becoming more familiar with SAS software again, as my undergraduate minor was in Applied Statistics. My position allowed me to work on my software skills, but it has also allowed me to apply problem-solving and analytic skills to complex, real-world datasets. Data reflects the complication that's in every day human experience. To limit experience to a few dozen variables, and to limit some of those variables to close-ended responses, requires that one ensure that the methodology be valid and the statistical analysis have robustness. I hope to do a thesis in Fall 2025 related to police officers' Professional Quality of Life and covariates. I look forward to learning more about Social Work research.
