Ms. Nguyen immigrated to the United States from Vietnam in 2013 at the age of 10. She learned English during her elementary school and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Cypress Ranch High School in 2022.
Currently, Ms. Nguyen is a junior at the University of Houston (UH) College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with a double minor in Health and Kinesiology. She is on the pre-dental track and aims to integrate her passion for healthcare with community service, focusing on improving accessibility for underserved populations. She is a mentor in the Challenger Program, guiding first-generation students through college, and a Learning Abroad Coogs ambassador, encouraging global education. She was awarded the National Science Foundation Scholarship for the UH GalápaGO program in 2024, where she conducted field research in the Galápagos Islands with the Universidad San Francisco de Quito.
Ms. Nguyen has been serving as a research assistant for the Cougar Cognitive Health Initiative (CHAIN), a program that supports mono-lingual Vietnamese older adults and provides free Montreal Cognitive Assessment, as well as Short Physical Performance Battery in Vietnamese to evaluate their cognitive and physical health. Through this role, she actively contributes to research that examines cognitive health trends, promotes early detection of dementia, and enhances brain health literacy for the Vietnamese American community. By engaging directly with participants at health fairs, she has gained invaluable experience in addressing health disparities, improving access to preventative care, and fostering meaningful connections within the multi-generation community.
