Finau Rabuka-Conklin, MSW is an Indigenous Fijian in the third year of her Social Work PhD program at the University of Utah. Finau has a strong commitment to Pacific Islander education and youth leadership. She has over 10 years of teaching experience in higher education, and she is currently a peer mentor to five undergraduate and graduate students at BYU and the University of Utah. Her research area focuses on historical trauma, oppression, and mental health for Pacific Islanders.
Since earning her MSW in 2008, Finau has had extensive experience in early childhood education. She served as Director of Early Head Start in Utah for 2 years, was a board member of the Utah Head Start Association and was appointed to Utah’s Interagency Coordinating Council for Infants and Toddlers with Special Needs between 2018-2021.
Finau has directed much of her research and volunteer efforts to help the people of Fiji and other Pacific Islands. She helped organize and conduct mental health research in Fiji with the BYU Polynesian Psychology research team. Last year, she partnered with the Amanaki Fo'ou foundation to provide diabetes education, treatment, and prevention to healthcare providers and the broader community in Fiji. Finau is receiving the 2025 CSWE Partner in International Education Student Award for her contributions in advancing education for global social work.
