Aisha Chapra Sander is a full-time faculty at Whatcom Community College in their Bachelor of Social Work program. She is also a licensed social worker currently living in Bellingham, WA and a part time therapist. Aisha grew up in Karachi, Pakistan and sustains her roots to her family and community in Karachi throughout her many years living in Canada and the US.
Aisha has practice experience working with individuals and groups in a community health setting in Toronto, Canada. She worked in a clinical setting and provided one on one counseling to refugees, immigrants, people experiencing houselessness, people living in poverty, people with disabilities, women experiencing intimate partner violence and has specialized experience working with immigrant and refugee youth, bi-cultural youth, and young adults. Aisha works from an anti-racist and anti-oppressive framework, where each client is seen holistically in their environment and the different systems that impact lives.
Since 2009 Aisha has been a yoga instructor, with over 400 hours in training and 1500 hours of teaching experiences and has taught in a wide variety of group and individual settings. Aisha specializes in issues related to social justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion as well as critical self-reflexive social work practice. Aisha has practiced mindfulness and meditation for over a decade and has found it to be an excellent tool for coping with stress, loss, grief, and life transitions.
