Jalissa R. Worthy, MSW, LMSW is a dedicated social worker and educator, currently pursuing her Doctor of Philosophy in Social Work at Howard University. With extensive experience in trauma and adversity, Jalissa’s research focuses on informal and institutional networks of support and social capital as facilitators of resilience and healing, especially within marginalized communities.
Jalissa holds a Master of Social Work from Salisbury University, where she was a fellow of the Communidad and Umoja Scholars Program, developing culturally responsive leadership in social work. She also earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Salisbury University.
At Howard University, Jalissa serves in the MSW program, where she teaches "Human Behavior and the Social Environment and Research Methods and Data Analysis." She also holds a leadership role as the Student Coordinator for the International Service-Learning Program in Cape Town, South Africa, and has supported the Mandela Washington Fellowship Program under the Office of International Programs.
In addition to her academic work, Jalissa has served as Project Director for “Shore Way to College,” an initiative supporting low-income high school students with early college access and career preparation. Throughout her career, she has led various community and education-focused programs, including managing grant budgets, coordinating international travel and partnerships, and facilitating youth outreach in mental health and substance abuse prevention.
Her professional experiences span from program development, international service-learning, and youth leadership to mental health services, making her a well-rounded expert in community-based social work practice and research.
