Tashira Turner serves as a Program Manager within the Arizona Department of Child Safety (DCS) Office of Prevention, where she oversees the agency's ADA/LEP Coordinator and ICWA Tribal Liaison and related initiatives. With over 11.5 years of experience in child welfare, she has held various positions within DCS, including client serving, business administration, procurement, and leadership roles. Tashira actively serves as the Workforce Resilience Program Training Coordinator, Chair of the Internal African American Racial Disparity Committee, Chair of the IDEAs Committee, Chair of the Central Office Spirit Committee, and Member of the Thriving Families Safer Children (TFSC) AZ Community Sub-Committee. Through her diverse experiences in child welfare, she has developed a holistic view of the challenges and opportunities within the system. She has played a pivotal role in the development and implementation of the DCS four-part training series, “Trauma, Empathy, and Your Role in Culturally Grounded Practice” in partnership with Arizona State University (ASU). As a facilitator of the training, she embraces every opportunity to model empathy, and understanding and to promote a culture of respect, knowing the residual impact will be far-reaching.
Tashira earned her Master’s Degree in Social Work focusing on Policy, Administration, and Community (PAC) from Arizona State University in 2022. Another title she proudly holds is that of a mother, which encompasses her experience of raising a child with special needs equipping her in being well-versed in navigating systems and overcoming challenges.
