Sheila Shankar, LSW (she/her) is a therapist and social work PhD student at the University of Chicago. Sheila’s research, teaching, and social work practice are rooted in intersectional feminist and queer praxis. She uses qualitative research methods to examine how marginalized survivors navigate experiences of state and gender-based violence, in addition to their practices of care, healing, and accountability. Sheila is committed to cultivating epistemic justice through using decolonial and feminist pedagogies in and outside of the social work classroom. In her work as therapist with queer and immigrant communities in Chicago, Sheila fosters relational justice and embodied transformation. She is a member of the National Queer and Trans Therapists of Color Network.
