Professor Lukas is currently pursuing a doctorate focused on simulation-based learning within practicum education. Over the past eight years, she has served as a Clinical Assistant Professor and Practicum Education Coordinator at Stony Brook University School of Social Welfare and as adjunct faculty at Adelphi University. Her academic career is dedicated to enhancing learning opportunities for both graduate and undergraduate students in practicum education and across the social work curriculum. She has also been instrumental in integrating interprofessional education into the curriculum, fostering collaborative learning experiences with disciplines such as nursing and dental. Before entering academia, she was the Director of Residential Programs, providing therapeutic and supportive services to youth in foster care. Her 20 years of practice experience also includes work with homelessness, foster care youth, criminal justice, HIV-positive youth, and mental health.
