Executive Director
The Village Institute
Ellie is a seasoned social worker, trauma therapist, community leader, and international development professional with over 15 years of experience across the U.S., Africa, Asia, and Latin America. She is the Founding Executive Director of The Village Institute - which she co-designed and launched in 2019 with deep involvement from refugee and immigrant community members, and meaningful inspiration from her own Jewish immigrant ancestors.
Ellie’s past roles have included managing Peace Corps Gambia’s inaugural Gender and Development program, and her work to launch and manage the Women and Girls Lead initiative - a USAID-funded gender equity initiative across five countries. In her five years with Women and Girls Lead, Ellie did everything from managing a multi-million dollar budget, to designing curricula, to managing a multicultural staff, to facilitating staff and partner trainings, to organizing high-visibility donor-facing events. She holds master’s degrees in Social Work (University of Denver) and International Peace Studies (University of Notre Dame).
