Dr. Philip Hong, Dean and Professor at the University of Georgia (UGA) School of Social Work, brings extensive expertise in social work and political science. Previously, he held positions at Saint Louis University and Loyola University Chicago (LUC). At LUC, Dr. Hong earned the Lucian and Carol Welch Matusak Professorship and directed the Ph.D. program while serving as Associate Dean for Research. His leadership included founding the Center for Research on Self-Sufficiency (CROSS), focusing on community-engaged research for self-sufficiency policies. As a Faculty Associate at the Center for Social Development at Washington University in St. Louis, he is recognized for his scholarship promoting workforce empowerment and workplace inclusion. He earned his MSW and PhD from the Brown School of Washington University and holds an MA and PhD in Political Science from the University of Missouri–St. Louis. Notably, he developed the Transforming Impossible into Possible (TIP) model, winning the University of Chicago’s Social Innovation Challenge. He has participated in MIT Solve’s incubator program, addressing community violence and social inclusion. As an influential figure, Dr. Hong serves as the Editor-in-Chief of Social Development Issues and on editorial boards for prominent journals. He contributes to the Chicago Housing Authority and advises the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific. His commitment to innovative research collaboration reflects his dedication to empowering individuals and systems.
