Dr. Rebecca Gomez is an Associate Professor and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at the School of Social Work at the University of Texas at Austin. Her research focuses on the impact of complex trauma and substance use disorders on families, shaping child welfare outcomes and interventions.
She specializes in child welfare workforce development, leading federally and state-funded initiatives to enhance training for professionals working with trauma-affected families. Her projects include Title IV-E child welfare training programs and interventions to expand social work competencies in substance use treatment. Her work has been funded by NIDA, SAMHSA, the Commonwealth of Virginia, and the State of Texas.
Currently, Dr. Gomez evaluates Texas’ Community-Based Care Initiative, leads a NIDA-funded parenting intervention for Hispanic families, directs the Texas Child Welfare Education Collaboration, and co-leads a NIDA-funded workforce training project supporting families impacted by substance use. She also serves on the editorial board of Child and Adolescent Social Work.
