Dr. Javier Segovia is a licensed clinical social work supervisor, board-certified diplomate, educator, and researcher whose work bridges mental health, health equity, and HIVIAIDS care. He earned his PhD in Social Work from Our Lady of the Lake University, where his dissertation-Exploring the Connection Between Initial HIV Diagnosis and Suicidality: A Narrative Inquiry-advanced understanding of the psychosocial and emotional experiences following diagnosis.
Dr. Segovia is Co-Owner and Psychotherapist at Maravilla Therapy Services, where he provides trauma-informed and culturally responsive psychotherapy. He also serves as an Adjunct Instructor at George Mason University, teaching Substance Use Interventions and mentoring emerging clinicians.
His research and scholarship focus on trauma, resilience, and stigma reduction among marginalized populations, with publications and presentations featured in venues such as the Professional Association of Social Workers in HIV/AIDS, the Council on Social Work Education, and the Society for Social Work and Research.
A passionate advocate for mentorship and inclusive scholarship, Dr. Segovia has held multiple national and institutional leadership roles-including Co-President of the GADE Student Advisory Committee and President of the Worden Doctoral Student Association. his work continues to center on advancing health equity, culturally responsive clinical practice, and social justice in social work education and research.
