Michelle is an MSW Intern who is completing her studies and pursuing licensure as a social worker. Michelle is also an adjunct instructor of First-Year writing at Lewis University. She earned her B.A. at Lewis in English Studies and continued to study rhetoric and sociocultural linguistics at DePaul University. She has worked in social services, education, and mental health for the majority of her career, at places such as Joliet Junior College, and the YMCA. After a major health incident, she decided to return to school to earn her MSW.
Michelle enjoys working with children, adolescents, and families. She has a particular interest in play therapy, art therapy, narrative therapy, and psychodynamic theories to address underlying issues preventing people from maximizing their potential. Michelle is also passionate about hospice social work and grief therapy for people who experience the death of a loved one. In addition, she is interested in the work that Children's Advocacy Centers do for their communities and other child welfare agencies that help children and adolescents recover from abuse. her research interests include examining how grief plays a role in a family's recovery from abuse. Michelle believes that recovery from trauma is possible for all survivors.
Michelle spends her free time with her 4 children, grandchildren, and 3 dogs. She enjoys reading, dancing, writing, and practicing yoga.
