USC Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work
Suh Chen Hsiao, DPPD, MSW, MA, PPSC, LCSW is a USC MSW alumna (Class of 1990) specializing in health. She currently serves as a Professor and Practicum Director for the BSW/MSW programs at the USC Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work.
Dr. Hsiao earned her second master's degree in Education from California State University, Dominguez Hills, along with an Administrative Credential in 2006. In 2018, she completed her Doctorate of Policy, Planning, and Development at the USC Price School of Public Policy.
As Practicum Director for both campus-based and virtual programs, Dr. Hsiao oversees the development, implementation, and continuity of practicum education programs and policies. She has overarching authority over all practicum education activities and functions, ensuring high-quality field education for students.
Dr. Hsiao is the Principal Investigator for the HRSA Scholarship for Disadvantaged Students: The Primary Care Project (2020-2025)—a national workforce expansion scholarship program for social work students committed to behavioral health in medically underserved communities (MUCs). This grant awards $649,990 annually for five years (totaling $3.25 million). She has also contributed to two USC HRSA-funded programs: the West Coast Project (WCP) and the Coast to Coast Project (C2C).
Passionate about Global Social Work, Dr. Hsiao has played a pivotal role in the CSWE China/U.S. Initiative, facilitating international academic exchanges and immersion programs. Her research interests include childhood trauma, immigrant older adults and their caregivers, MSW students' learning outcomes, behavioral health, and interprofessional collaboration.
