Dr. Amanda Fackler (she/her/hers) is an Assistant Professor of Social Work at the University of North Dakota (UND), where she has been serving since 2024. She earned her Ph.D. in Social Work from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, in December 2024. Additionally, she holds an MS in Social Work (2014) and a BS in Social Work (2010), obtained from the University of Tennessee and Asbury University, respectively.
Dr. Fackler’s research centers on housing insecurity and homelessness, gender and social inequity, implicit bias in social work education, and the social responses to climate change, particularly its effects on marginalized populations. Her recent work explores the social determinants of health in relation to timing for housing and placement for individuals experiencing homelessness. She has also conducted studies on the validity and reliability of housing prioritization tools. Her recent publications concentrate on extreme weather and homelessness, as well as the racial and gender dynamics in housing outcomes for homeless youth and families.
Dr. Fackler has held various roles in social work practice, including serving as a PACT Social Worker at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, providing medical case management at a major nonprofit hospital, and working in refugee resettlement.
