Kenyette Garrett, LCSW, is a PhD candidate and adjunct instructor in the College of Social Work at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. With a passion for fostering anti-racism and social justice in social work education and practice, Kenyette strives to create affirming, inclusive learning environments that empower students to develop as culturally responsive and equity-focused professionals.
Kenyette’s research interests center on examining anti-Blackness within music education and exploring the intersections of race, culture, and social work. Her work challenges oppressive systems while promoting equity and liberation for marginalized communities.
In addition to teaching, Kenyette has extensive experience in professional social work practice, including case management, community engagement, and advocacy for underrepresented populations. This practice informs their approach to teaching and research, ensuring students gain practical, client-centered insights while critically engaging with systemic inequities.
Kenyette is dedicated to integrating anti-racist and social justice frameworks into both classroom instruction and research, aiming to cultivate future social workers equipped to address structural inequalities and advance social change.
