Assistant Professor Deborah Blumenthal brings expertise in supervision/leadership, program development, and clinical experience with an emphasis on trauma to GSSW. Blumenthal dedicated over 15 years in Child welfare directing and managing clinical programming that serve children, youth, and families in residential and foster care settings. Blumenthal's passion is developing therapeutic programming and services that utilize a trauma informed lens to promote healing and overall health and wellness. In addition to her faculty role, Blumenthal has a part-time private practice specializing in trauma, attachment and somatic healing. Blumenthal graduated from GSSW in 2002 and has been affiliated with the GSSW/field team since 2014 in various capacities, from adjunct teaching to field liaison work, ultimately leading to her appointment as faculty in Fall 2023. She believes that Field Education is integral to students’ development as social workers, by providing opportunities to integrate classroom concepts, and develop one's social work identity, as well as real life challenges and discomfort.
