Hannan Hijazi is a Ph.D. candidate in Social Work at Howard University, specializing in religious identity and mental health among Muslim Americans. She holds a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Maryland and a Bachelor’s in Psychology from Marymount University.
Hannan's experience includes clinical practice, education, and research. She works part-time as a social worker at Children’s National Hospital, providing case management and psychoeducation for patients transitioning to adult care. As a research assistant, she studies religious affiliation/disaffiliation trends among American Muslim youth.
Hannan has published works on religion, spirituality, and Islamophobia and presented at prestigious conferences. She is licensed in Maryland and has received multiple awards, including the CSWE Minority Fellowship Program. Her goals include establishing her own counseling practice, teaching, and research. Her research interests include trauma-informed practices, mental health for immigrants and refugees, 21st-century Muslim experiences, child development, cultural humility, and religiosity.
