Dr. Ratonia C. Runnels is an Associate Professor and Coordinator of BSW Field Education in the School of Social Work, Psychology, and Philosophy at Texas Woman's University in Denton, TX. Dr. Runnels has over 25 years of experience promoting healthy living and positive lifestyle choices among women and girls living with HIV. Her research focuses on mental health and support services for women living with HIV and women who have experienced intimate partner violence. Her background includes community outreach, substance abuse counseling, case management, professional training, and consulting for state and federal offices. Dr. Runnels has presented at several national and international conferences, served in various capacities with faith-based health initiatives, and published scholarly works on culturally relevant interventions and mental health services for African-American women, spirituality among trauma survivors and women with chronic illness, as well as faith-based outreach and mental health programs. Dr. Runnels mentors women in the areas of leadership, advocacy, public speaking, strengthening relationships, and health maintenance. Her message is one of hope and healing that promises to inspire and revolutionize how we perceive obstacles and dis-ease.
