Dr. Ratonia C. Runnels is an Associate Professor, Social Work Practicum Coordinator, and Associate Director of the School Social Work, Psychology, and Philosophy at Texas Woman's University in Denton, TX. Dr. Runnels has 14 years of expereince as field director, field liasion, and field instructor. She has over 25 years of experience promoting healthy living and positive lifestyle choices among women and girls living with HIV. Her research focuses on mental health and support services for women living with HIV and women who have experienced intimate partner violence, spirituality among trauma survivors and women with chronic illness, as well as faith-based outreach and mental health programs. Her background includes community outreach, substance abuse counseling, case management, professional training, consulting for state and federal offices, Dr. Runnels mentors women in the areas of leadership, advocacy, public speaking, strengthening relationships, and health maintenance. Her message is one of hope and healing that promises to inspire and revolutionize how we perceive obstacles and dis-ease.
