Dr. Ohiro Oni-Eseleh is the Founding Program Director and faculty social work member at the University of Delaware. Before that, he was the Assistant Dean for Program Development and Community Engagement at Adelphi University and Director of the Hudson Valley Center of Adelphi University School of Social Work from 2015 until coming to the University of Delaware in July 2023. He was a leader in social work education in New York State and served as the Second Vice President of New York Schools of Social Work Education. As a member of the Service-User Guide Committee of the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), he is also a national leader in the field. Dr. Ohiro Oni-Eseleh has taught across the Master of Social Work (MSW) curriculum and teaches in a Doctor of Social Work program. His areas of research include aging and university-community partnerships.
Dr. Oni-Eseleh also possesses extensive clinical experience, having practiced for over three decades in several areas, including health, mental health, trauma, aging, and in school social work practice. He remains an active clinical practitioner. Prior to getting into academia, Dr. Oni-Eseleh created and ran social work departments at two health care agencies and supervised multiple social work departments in various organizations. Along with others in leadership, he also played significant roles in developing best practices and treatment approaches, staff training, performance improvement initiatives and providing overall direction for the mission of the organizations.
