My current line of research is in prevention and countering violent extremism. I have conducted this line of research in Haiti, Lebanon, the Palestinian Refugee Camps, and the United States (Idaho and New York State). My prior research agenda looked at the humanitarian and psychosocial impacts of disasters using population-based surveys, and was primarily conducted in Haiti and Lebanon. I was a National Academy of Sciences Jefferson Science Fellow attached to the US Department of State, Bureau of Counterterrorism in the Office of Countering Violent Extremism (2019-2020) and was (consulting) Senior Advisor to the Office of Countering Violent Extremism from 2020-2025.
