Founding Director and Professor
Wingate University
Wendy E. Sellers, PhD, MSW, MA, is a Professor and Founding Director of the Social Work Program at Wingate University. Her professional journey began over thirty years ago when, nearing completion of a graduate degree in history and unsure what to do next, Dr. Sellers made a life-changing phone call and joined the Peace Corps. Her next two years an Environmental Education Volunteer in Nicaragua expanded her understanding of service in the beloved community and led her down the path of transformative social work. Dr. Sellers is a macro social worker and has dedicated her career to creating meaningful change both at home and abroad. She has worked in everything from community outreach with migrant and seasonal farmworkers to program development with state and federal agencies. Additionally, Dr. Sellers has followed in the footsteps of her parents as a lifelong educator and has served in leadership, accreditation, continuous improvement, and instructional capacities in both undergraduate and graduate programs. As Founding Director of the MSW Program, Dr. Sellers is excited about all the ways in which Wingate University is paving the way for transformative social work in the beloved community. She serves on the Consolidated Human Services Board of Union County, the Advisory Board of the Atrium Hospice and Palliative Care of Union County/Hospice of Anson County, and the program planning committee of the Monroe Rotary Club.
